🍎 Apple Play-dough 🍎

🍎 Apple Play-dough 🍎

Although the official start of Fall is at the end of the month, getting Back to School always gets us excited for Autumn.  This apple play-dough activity encourages fine motor skills and hands-on learning.  Plus, you can also turn it into a counting and sorting activity.  For example, once the play-dough is made, have the children make small, medium, and large apples from the dough and put them in the correct size order.

The best part of this dough is that it smells SO good! Like a warm apple pie.  🥧Because of this, however, you must make sure that it is not ingested.

❗️This play-dough is not suitable for consumption! ❗️

You will need:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 Tablespoons cream of tartar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Green or red food coloring
  • Apple scented oil (optional)
  • 1 tsp of Cinnamon spice (optional, but this is what makes it smell like apple pie)

STEP 1:   Add flour, salt, and cream of tartar to a medium mixing bowl.

STEP 2:   Add the red or green food coloring to your water and then add to the drying ingredients. Lastly, add the vegetable oil to your bowl.

STEP 3:   Mix all ingredients well.

STEP 4:  Once mixed well, pour the liquid dough mixture into a small saucepan and heat over low heat until the mixture starts to thicken. Continue to stir it until you see it forming a play-dough texture.

STEP 5:  Remove the dough from the pan and place it on your work center. Allow the play-dough mixture to cool for 5 minutes.
