In this rainbow experiment, capillary action allows the water to move upward through the paper towel, lifting the washable dye molecules with it. Because the washable markers are water-based, they disperse in water.
What do you think will happen when the paper towel is put in water?
1️⃣Fold the paper towel in half horizontally. Color in rectangular blocks on each end of the paper towel- purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and red, leaving plenty of blank white space in the middle.
🚰Pour water into the two glasses until they are about 3/4 full.
🌈Place the two ends of the paper towels into the cups. 1/2 of the rainbow blocks should be in the water.
✨Watch the colors travel up the paper towel and make your observations!
